The Guiseley brief
For a stone-built property in Guiseley or Hawksworth, decide whether new work should closely match the existing fabric or form a deliberate contrast. Either approach needs a clear specification. A photograph labelled “stone” is not enough to price coursing, joints, openings and the connection to the old wall.
Preparation guidance, not a survey of your property. The location photograph shows the area; it is not evidence of work by ATR.
LS20 / 01
Agree a visible sample
Bring to the conversationClose and wide photographs of the existing walling.
Why this matters
Photograph the existing wall in daylight and discuss a sample of the proposed material and pointing. Record the agreed appearance before comparing prices based on different assumptions about the finish.
LS20 / 02
Detail the old-to-new junction
Bring to the conversationA section through the proposed junction and existing floor levels.
Why this matters
Ask the designer to show where roof, wall and floor levels meet the original building. Make weathering and maintenance access part of that detail rather than a decision made after walls are built.
