The Shipley brief

For a Saltaire property, heritage and listing checks should precede decisions about external alterations. A refurbishment elsewhere in Shipley or Wrose may have a different set of constraints. Bradford’s guidance and the individual building record are the starting points; neither the BD18 prefix nor a neighbour’s work establishes consent.

Preparation guidance, not a survey of your property. The location photograph shows the area; it is not evidence of work by ATR.

Describe exactly what changes

Bring to the conversationThe building record and a schedule of proposed external and internal changes.

Why this matters

Separate repair, replacement and alteration on drawings and photographs. Check Bradford’s Article 4 information and the National Heritage List for the address before deciding which permissions or specialist advice are needed.

Set out the new services discreetly

Bring to the conversationExisting and proposed service routes marked on plans and elevations.

Why this matters

When upgrading a kitchen or bathroom, show proposed vents, flues and pipe routes as well as the fittings. These may affect retained fabric or visible elevations and should be considered with the wider design.
