The Clayton brief
For a Clayton extension, decide early how the new walls, roof and openings will relate to the existing building. On a property with visible stonework, small differences in course height, joint colour or sill details can be more noticeable than the overall size of the addition.
Preparation guidance, not a survey of your property. The location photograph shows the area; it is not evidence of work by ATR.
BD14 / 01
Make the material choice testable
Bring to the conversationExisting wall photographs and proposed material samples or references.
Why this matters
Use a physical sample or clearly agreed specification rather than a generic description of matching stone. Record which faces will be visible and where reused material is proposed, if any.
BD14 / 02
Include the awkward connections
Bring to the conversationA junction section and the proposed rainwater arrangement.
Why this matters
Show how the new roof, gutters and external ground meet the original house. Ask for maintenance access and rainwater details to be resolved before the final appearance is signed off.
